He has held a number of academic positions and his work has been focused on pastoral theology as embodied and lived within congregational care, storytelling, and narrative theory. He has served as the associate professor for pastoral care and counseling at Columbia Theological Seminary (2005-2014), where he currently serves as the Vice President for Student Services and Dean of Students, as well as Senior Lecturer in Pastoral Theology and Care (2014–present).〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.ctsnet.edu/files/faculty/Johnson_Paul_CV2014.pdf )〕 ==Career== Johnson received a B.A. from the University of North Carolina (1976), a M.Div. from Duke University (1980), a Th.M. in pastoral care and counseling from Texas Christian University (1983), a Ph.D. from Emory University (1996), and participated in a clinical practicum at Brite Divinity School (1981-1983). Ordained as an elder in the United Methodist Church (1991), he served as the Associate Minister for Pastoral Care and Counseling at First United Methodist Church of Arlington, Texas (1983-1986), the Associate Minister at Snellville United Methodist Church (1991-2001), and the Associate Minister at Embry Hills United Methodist Church (2001-2005). Johnson has also spent time as a chaplain in the psychiatric unit at Georgia Baptist Hospital (1987-1990), was a staff counselor for Verdery Pastoral Counseling Center of the Georgia Baptist Health Care System (1987-2002) and the Care and Counseling Center of Georgia (2002-2004), and the director of training for the Care and Counseling Center of Georgia (2002-2014).
